Web Designer and Web Marketer - Rowen Ravera

who am i?

I am not Wonder Woman, but I am an online communications specialist who understands the potential for online tools to effect change.

How can we use technology to increase government accountability, encourage development and community growth, and encourage positive change for individuals?

I use a range of tools: website design, social media, search engine optimisation, as well as other methods including the new possibilities that crop up online all the time.

I speak fluently HTML, XHTML, CSS and a little bit of PHP and HTML5. I have worked in South Africa, the UK and Italy developing sites, launching successful integrated campaigns, liaising with a range of people from developers to international celebrities.

Please feel free to ask me questions, request a quote or simply say "hi!" by email or on Twitter, Facebook or Linkedin. Or use the contact form

Wikipedia and African Education: taking flight

Why get Africa online as quickly possible? The rich source of knowledge and information readily available, for free, just a mouse click away is just one good reason.

Take Wikipedia for example: the world’s most referenced online encyclopaedia has enabled a Kenyan man, Gabriel Nderitu, to build a plane using instructions downloaded from the site.

Offering my services to Julius Malema

Julius Malema and ANC YL call for "closer" of TwitterJulius Malema wants to shut down Twitter in South Africa, according to the Independent. He has recently come under phweet*attacks, that are sufficiently funny to have drawn the attention of the public.

However, his reaction has drawn the attention of the international media. I would like to offer my services to Mr Malema, to ensure he avoids such pitfalls in the future!

African Minds Online

online usage in Africa grew more than 2,300% between the years 2000 and 2010 - this by far the fastest growing online community in the world. Despite Africa often being pidgeon-holed by the "Crisis Stereotype" or "Exotic Stereotype", we surprised even the most optimistic market experts.

The driving question behind African Minds Online is: "How can we use technology to develop Africa, improve its governance and support community endeavors?"

African Minds Online is a nonprofit that:

  1. encourages innovative use of technology to benefit Africa
  2. raises international, and local, awareness for African online development
  3. supports and grows African entrepreneurs online connecting them to international markets

The site is under construction (take a look and let me know what you think?).

It features integrated social media, ecommerce, a voting system, as well as other bells and whistles

It is built using the opensource CMS - OpenPublish.
